1952. Boston – Nathan Swartz is buying shares of a small shoe-making company. In the following years he's buying all other shares becomming sole owner of Abington Shoe Company. Together with his sons he changes the company into a blossoming family business. From 1955 to 1965, Swartz's company is producing footwear for the biggest brands on the market. 1965 has brought a breakthrough, a new idea is born in the owners head, creation of a waterproof shoe intended for difficult weather conditions. What came next was creation of injection-molding technology, which enabled creation of virtually waterproof boots. In 1973 the first in history waterproof boot is created, under the name Timberland. In 1978 Abington Shoe Company changes its name to Timberland Company. Models produced by the Timberland brand are considered as one of the best waterproof boots for bad weather.
